2012 SUMMER LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
Soul Deep – Why are people poor? Demystifying the Opportunity Gap in the United States
July 20-29, 2012 New Orleans, Louisiana
Do you have concerns about the direction of this country? Are you an artist, a culture bearer, community organizer, or a bit of all of those? Are you seeking an incredible dance experience, leadership development and an opportunity to collaboratively create a site-specific performance and public dialogue around the question being asked across this country and the world – Why are people poor? Then join the national dance organization Urban Bush Women and a broad cross-section of participants from around the country for a life-changing experience at our 10-day Summer Leadership Institute July 20-29, 2012, in New Orleans, Louisiana!
Study with Urban Bush Women’s Founding Artistic Director Jawole Willa Jo Zollar
& special guest, choreographer Liz Lerman!
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. - Margaret Mead
This 10-day institute will afford us an opportunity to deepen our understanding of art-making, community organizing and social change by focusing on:

Leadership - Focusing on ourselves as art-centered leaders capable of galvanizing and facilitating change with values that reflect the philosophy and methodology of UBW and our partner organization People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond
Art-making - Creating site-specific multi-genre performances that lead us to engage in public dialogues regarding our theme Why Are People Poor?
